BACKGROUND
The SMALCHILD (Save the Malnourished Child) Project is providing access to lifesaving treatment for acutely malnourished children under 5yrs. Over 230 acutely malnourished children have been successfully treated since 2017
Malnourished children suffer impaired physical growth and sub-optimal brain (cognitive) development which affects their ability to learn at school. As such, they become economically less productive as adults, leading to poverty. Malnutrition remains a continental gross socioeconomic development barrier. Africa loses up to 16.5% of its gross domestic product (GDP) due to child under-nutrition; Ghana losing $2.6 billion equivalent to 6.4% of its GPD in 2012 (Cost of Hunger Report, 2016).
Malnourished children are not able to access treatment
The SMALCHILD Project provides access to free treatment for acutely malnourished children within their community.
